Who are we?
ES Riders started in a very simple way. After experiencing the joy of giving away our first Segway to our friend and inspiration Andy Martin, we created a logo design, printed some t-shirts, and started a club to help raise money every year to buy a Segway for people with special needs. We met with some great friends and companies and asked them to help us out with this life-changing project. Those friends and companies did help us out, and continue to do so. Just last year, the children and the staff at McKelvie Intermediate School in Bedford, NH, raised over $7,000 to help purchase two more Segways for their classmates. It was quite a moment when we were able to present these Segways to the students. With their support, we have now given away five Segways and are about to give away our sixth! However, it will not just stop there, as we want to give away hundreds. Can we do it? You bet we can! Would you like to join us and help in this incredible cause?

While participating in an Easter Seals walk a couple of years ago, an old friend of mine, 10-year old Andy Martin, came whizzing by me on a loaned Segway. With a smile and a laugh that would excite anyone, he yelled to me, "Hey Tom! I'm going to beat you in the walk!" Of course, my reply was "Oh, no you're not!" Needless to say, Andy was waiting for me at the finish line. He beat me hands down and waited at the finish line with a giant smile on his face and a renewed spirit that I have rarely seen. Andy had just been fitted with new braces, and he was waiting to show me how he could walk. I've never been more proud of anyone in my life. This young man was teaching me life lessons that I had forgotten. Thank you Andy; you're truly an inspiration.

Returning to work the following Monday the thought came to me… why can’t we buy Andy his own Segway? What’s stopping us? After consulting with people at work, we determined that we could buy him his own Segway. Nothing would stop us! With many other great and caring people we bought Andy his own Segway. Who would have realized that something so easy would turn into one of the greatest moments of our lives? We had no way of knowing the impact this Segway would have on not only Andy, but on us as well. It was just too good to believe! Andy's smile and excitement brought tears to our eyes as we realized that we could make a difference. What a difference it has made! We decided to raise more money and give away more Segways. Today, ES Riders has grown to five team members. We’re just beginning!
